The Hirschmann SPIDER II 8TX PoE Switch is an unmanaged Ethernet switch. It supports Power over Ethernet (PoE), which allows for the transmission of electric power over twisted pair Ethernet cabling. PoE can be used to provide power to PoE-compliant devices such as IP Cameras, VoIP phones, and wireless access points. The SPIDER II 8TX PoE Switch is designed for entry level industrial applications. It supports the store and forward switching modes. The Ethernet ports on the switch support 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps data transfer rates. There are eight 10/100 BASE-TX ports on the SPIDER II 8TX PoE Switch, out of which 4 ports support the IEEE802.3af PoE standards. The IEEE802.3af standards mean that up to 15.4 Watts of power are supported on each port.

The physical interface on the SPIDER II 8TX PoE Switch is the RJ45 interface. The ports on the switch support auto-crossing, auto-polarity, and auto-negotiation. The twisted pair Ethernet cables used with the switch can support a maximum length of 100 meters. The network can support any network topology, including the line and star topologies. The power requirements for the SPIDER II 8TX PoE Switch include 18 to 32 Volts DC input and 75 Watts of maximum power consumption.
