The SPIDER 1TX/1FX-SM switch is a Hirschmann unmanaged Ethernet switch. There are 2 ports on the switch, and 1 port can be used with a fiber cable while the other port can be used with twisted pair network cables. The fiber port on the SPIDER 1TX/1FX-SM switch is designed for use with a single-mode fiber optic cable. With a 16 dB link budget at a 1300 nanometer wavelength, the maximum single mode cable length which can be used is 32.5 kilometers. The fiber cable attenuation should not exceed 0.4 dB per kilometer and the dispersion should not exceed 3.5 picoseconds per kilometer. The fiber interface on the SPIDER 1TX/1FX-SM switch supports a 100 Mbps data rate and it has a SC interface. The 10/100BASE-TX port on the switch can be used with 100-meter twisted pair copper cable.

The availability of a 100BASE-FX port and a 10/100BASE-TX port on the SPIDER 1TX/1FX-SM switch allows it to be used for media conversion. The switching technology available on the switch is store and forward switching technology. The operating temperature range is 32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit and the storage/transport temperature range is -40 to 158 degrees Fahrenheit. To prevent excess moisture in the environment, the non-condensing relative humidity level should be kept between 10 and 95%. The IP 30 rated enclosure of the SPIDER  1TX/1FX-SM switch should be mounted inside a suitable industrial enclosure where it will be protected from dust, moisture, and harmful vibrations. Only trained technicians should be able to access the switch cabinet. The SPIDER 1TX/1FX-SM switch is an industrial switch and it should only be used in accordance with the instructions listed in the manual.
