The M4-Power chassis is a power unit chassis that has been manufactured by Hirschmann. It is designed to be the power unit chassis for Hirschmann rack mount switches like the MACH4000 switch. The M4-Power power unit chassis supports a cable called the M4-Power power cable, but only for connections to a redundant power supply in a MACH4000 switch that is using a redundant power supply system. The switch has 2 uncoupled inputs for connecting the redundant power supply. Redundant power supply systems reduce the risk of complete power failures, data losses, and communication errors. The MACH4000 switch can accommodate 2 M4-Power power unit chassis at a time, and both chassis connect to the back of the switch with power supply cables. The M4-Power chassis measures 480 x 88 x 435 millimeters.
The M4-Power power unit chassis provides the MACH4000 rack mount switch with 3 slots for different plug-in power units. These compatible plug-in power units include a basic AC plug-in power unit that is rated at 300 Watts, a 24 Volts DC plug-in power unit that is also rated at 300 Watts but with 2 connections that are coupled with diodes, and a 48 Volts DC plug-in power unit rated at 300 Watts and with 2 connections that are coupled with diodes. Note that these plug-in power units cannot be used with the rack mount switch chassis, but they are hot-swappable, which means they can be replaced in the power unit chassis during operation as needed. The MACH4000 switch and the M4-Power power unit chassis are grounded through the power connections to the M4-Power power unit chassis.
