The Hirschmann OCTOPUS-5TX EEC switch is an unmanaged switch with 5 network ports. It is part of the Hirschmann Octopus product line which is suitable for outdoor applications with harsh environmental conditions. The Octopus switches can be used in road vehicles, trains, and ships.  The OCTOPUS-5TX EEC switch requires 24 Volts DC input voltage. One M12 5-pin connector for the power supply input is available on the switch. The operating voltage range is 12 to 24 Volts DC. The power consumption rating of the switch is 24 Watts. A signaling contact is not available on the OCTOPUS-5TX EEC switch. The protection rating of the housing of the switch is IP 67. The switch implements the IEEE 802.3 standard for Ethernet switching and it uses the store and forward Ethernet switching. All the 5 network ports on the OCTOPUS-5TX EEC switch are 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet ports with M12 interfaces.

Diagnostic LEDs for power, link status, and data updates are available on the Hirschmann OCTOPUS-5TX EEC switch. The working temperature range is from -40 to 60 degrees Celsius. Note that some of the switch accessories may support a different working temperature range, leading to a possible limiting of the operating temperature range for the entire system. The mechanical specifications for the OCTOPUS-5TX EEC switch include 210 grams of weight and dimensions of 60 x 126 x 31 millimeters. The switch mounts on a wall. The OCTOPUS-5TX EEC switch is approved by the CE, EAC and RCM industrial standards. It is also approved by the cUL 508 standards for the safety of industrial control equipment. One connector for the power connection and a set of general safety instructions are provided with the switch.
