The OCTOPUS 16M-Train switch is a heavy-duty industrial switch manufactured by Hirschmann. It is part of the Hirschmann IP 65/IP 67 Switches & Routers product line. The OCTOPUS 16M-Train switch comes with 16 ports that have RJ 45 connectors and that are 10Base-T or 100Base-TX ports. This switch does not support Power over Ethernet or PoE. It is designed for applications in the electronic systems that are used in railway vehicles. It weighs about 1.9 kilograms. Although it does not support PoE, THE OCTOPUS 16M-Train switch can handle several other kinds of power supplies such as redundant power supplies and SELV or Safety Extra Low Voltage power supplies. This switch uses DC voltage in a standard operating range from 24 to 48 Volts DC, but the widest voltage range that it can handle if necessary is from 9.6 to 60 Volts DC.

The Hirschmann OCTOPUS 16M-Train heavy-duty switch from the IP 65/IP 67 Switches & Routers series uses a 5-pin M12 type of connector to connect to other devices and it requires a tightening torque of 5.3 pounds on an inch or 0.6 N-m for all of its connections. Its power loss buffer is less than 10 milliseconds and its peak inrush current rating is 13.8 Amps. The OCTOPUS 16M-Train switch can be protected by a 5-Amps rated slow-blow backup fuse. During normal operation, this switch consumes a maximum of 9.5 Watts of power and it dissipates a maximum of 32 BTU per hour in the form of heat. The OCTOPUS 16M-Train switch has an IP 65 or IP 67 protection rating and it can handle a temperature range from -40 to 70 degrees Celsius or -40 to 158 degrees Fahrenheit.
