Product Overview
The WS-C3850-24XU is a campus LAN switch that is manufactured by Cisco. It belongs to the catalyst 3850 series and is useful for the access configuration network.
Like others in its series, the WS-C3850-24XU allows for connection between wired and wireless devices.
With 24 multigigabit ports, the WS-C3850-24XU is able to provide up to 20 Gigabyte per second of wireless per switch. It also has 24 Universal Power Over Ethernet (UPOE) ports. Each of these ports are able to deliver as much as 60W of power.
The WS-C3850-24XU supports 8 x 10 Gigabyte Ethernet and 2 x 40 Gigabyte Ethernet uplink modules.
Stacking
For resilience and durability, the WS-C3850-24XU is built to support Cisco stack power. The Cisco stack power allows the WS-C3850-24XU to share power supply in a stack, making it a common resource for all the switches present. This allows unification of power supply, and channelling to the exact place where it is needed.
Technical specifications
The WS-C3850-24XU has Control and Provisioning of Wireless Access Points (CAPWAP) which functions to provide full visibility even when there is a convergence of both wired and wireless networks. The implication of this is that user and user traffic can be monitored and attackers can be blocked even before they cause any damage to the system. In all, a full flexibility of the system is also assured with this feature.
Security
Security is a top priority at Cisco and this is one of the reasons that the WS-C3850-24XU is fitted with securing features for both wired and wireless users like the IP source guard, the control plane protection and the IEEE 802 1x and Wireless Intrusion Prevention Systems (WIPS).
The Cisco Modular QoS command line interface is another interesting feature of the WS-C3850-24XU. It allows a prioritized management of bandwidth beginning from the access point level all the way down to the user level. This allows enables the WS-C3850-24XU to allocate bandwidth equally.
