WS-C2960S-48LPD-L is one of the Cisco catalyst 2960-s series switches with LAN based software and provide advanced features such as PoE (Power over Ethernet), stacking using FlexStack and extended Layer 2 LAN security and QoS features.
Power over Ethernet (PoE) and Power Consumption
The power rating is 0.48kVA. DC input voltages are 12V at 4A and -52V at 8A. Power over Ethernet (PoE) is a switch in network that powers over Ethernet simply connect other network devices to the switch as normal and switch finds whether they are PoE available and start the power automatically. PoE+ supports up to 30W per port and power supply with 740W or 370W PoE+ are available. Normally PoE supports 15.4W per port.

The Cisco Catalyst switch C2960S-48LPD-L has 48 ports rack mountable with switching capacity of 176 Gbps and forwarding performance of 101.2 Mbps with 64-byte packet size. MAC address available like 8K entries. It is SSL encrypted with secure shell (SSH). RADIUS and TACACS+ are extra authentication methods that are supported on the Switch.
Hardware Specifications:
The switch can be connected via console using the USB port or the standard RJ45 cable. The external storage space can be added by connecting the external hard drive to an USB port. The flash memory of the switch is 128 Megabytes with a dual core processor. It has 2 SFP+.
Switch Performance:
A maximum of 176Gbps is available on the WS-C2960S-LPD-L. Cisco flexstack feature allows stacking of up to 8 such switches. The average Time between the device failures is estimated to be 198,300 hours. The switch extends the layer 2 capabilities by the use of its hot swappable FlexStack stacking feature. This feature helps you to scale your network quickly without disruption in the production network and with no additional configuration to the individual switch memebers.

The detailed information about configuring and deploying the Cisco switch can be found on the Cisco’s website. The Datasheet (pdf) file contains up to date and comprehensive information about the device specifications and its capabilities. Additionally, Cisco sells the SmartNet contract for this device which ensures, 24x7 assistance from the TAC (Technical assistance center of Cisco) and other premium features (such as replacement). However, this contract has to be purchased directly from Cisco.
Additional Information:
Most of the parts can be purchased at a very low price, with discounts going up to 50 % of the retail price. The end of life/support (EoL/EoS) date is not announced for this switch. The release date of the switch is 15th of March, 2010. The warranty for most of the sold products through the website is one year.
